Bylaw I. Standing Committees and Their Duties

Section 1. Curriculum

The Curriculum Committee consists of a Convener (elected as per ARTICLE VII of the Constitution) and at least four other members appointed by the General Committee, at least two of whom are current members of the General Committee. This committee has authority

  1. to recommend to the General Committee the courses and appropriate lecturers for the Fall and Winter Terms
  2. to recommend to the General Committee amounts of honoraria for the lecturers
  3. to conduct evaluations of the courses and lecturers at the end of each term

Section 2. Publicity & Promotion

The Publicity and Promotion Committee consists of a Convener (elected as per ARTICLE VII of the Constitution) and at least three other members, at least one of whom is a current member of the General Committee. This committee has authority

  1. to prepare the necessary enrolment forms, brochures outlining the courses, posters for churches, advertisements in the press, radio, TV, etc.
  2. to publicize the Lay School through various channels to the laity

Section 3. Books

The Books Committee consists of a Convener (elected as per ARTICLE VII of the Constitution) and at least one other member. This committee has authority

  1. to contact the lecturers for each new term and to order such books for sale to the Lay School participants as may be recommended for class use by the lecturers
  2. to mount a display of books for sale on nights that lectures are given, ich books shall pertain to the courses being offered or be of general heological interest and subject matter

Bylaw II. Terms of Office

All officers and conveners shall be installed at the General Committee meeting held following the winter term, and their terms shall commence immediately thereafter.


Bylaw III. Fiscal Year

The fiscal year shall be from April 1 to March 31.


Bylaw IV. Financial Authority

Section 1. Budget Constraints

The Executive Committee shall not incur unbudgeted expenses in excess of $500 without obtaining the approval of the General Committee.

Section 2. Signing Officers

  1. The General Committee shall designate the signing officers of the organization.
  2. The signatures of any two of the signing officers shall be required on all cheques or other financial instruments.

Bylaw V. Financial Review

The books of the School shall be audited or reviewed at the conclusion of each fiscal year by an independent, qualified person. The result shall be included in the treasurer's report presented at the first meeting of the General Committee thereafter.


Bylaw VI. Amendments to Bylaws

Any amendments to these bylaws shall be made in accordance with ARTICLE VIII of the constitution.
